Oppie Camp 22

Oppie Camp 2022

This year's event is on the weekend of 24th-26th June and is being organised by Simon Oiller (with a little support from me). Chris Gorton has kindly volunteered to be Oppie Camp SI.

Click here for the sign-up form which gives indicative pricing and more importantly lists the jobs for which we need volunteers to make this event a success.

IMPORTANT - Please remember to fill everything out and volunteer for as many jobs as you are willing to take on to make it easier for us to distribute these fairly amongst those attending.

ALMOST AS IMPORTANT! Please note the new arrangements for the BBQ this year.

Not been before?

This is the first camp in a couple of years so there are many new members who haven't been before. Hopefully the information below will be useful but please email me directly if you have any remaining questions.

Muir.robertson@icloud.com

We have capacity for a few more so if you know members who might like to attend please feel free to forward these details on.

We look forward to seeing you there and fingers crossed we have good weather!

USEFUL INFORMATION

Where is it?

The camp is held at Cobnor in a private camping field adjacent to Cobnor House PO18 8TE. Drive to the end of the lane and you will see the camping field on your right.

What should I expect at the campsite?

It is a camping field with limited facilities. We will have our own portaloos. There are two water standpipes but there is no electricity and no showers.

What can I bring?

Bring along your tent, caravan or campervan. You will also need picnic gear which includes a table and chairs for the BBQ. If you are bringing your own BBQ, please note disposable BBQs are not allowed.

When should we arrive?

You can arrive and pitch up anytime from 2pm Friday. There will be a sailing briefing at 7.30pm on Friday evening when we will know what the conditions are and we have finalised any details. Please make every effort to be there. As a heads up we are aiming to sail at about 10.30am Saturday.

What food should I bring?

This is self-catering and you will need to bring all meals with you - although in previous years some people have popped home to top up supplies! You will need to prepare a packed lunch for Saturday. On the Saturday evening (as is tradition) we would like everyone to eat together in the middle of the field and would ask that you bring a salad and desert that you are willing to share. In a change to previous camps, there will be no chefs but there will be one BBQ set up for those who do not have one with them to cook their own BBQ food. This is a new approach which takes some of the pressure off the organisers and allows everyone to cook what they want whilst still enjoying everyone's company.

Sailing

On Saturday we will take our packed lunches and sail to East Head. The tides are perfect this year. Kids who have reached RYA Stage 2 can sail and if you are unsure about whether your child can sail please talk to your instructor. We need to know details of the people going to East Head so that we can plan patrol cover and ensure we have enough instructors to cover the groups. Please list the names of any children on the form who will be sailing to East Head so that we can plan this. You need to take your own boat or book a club boat. There will be additional information on the arrangements for getting club boats to and from Cobnor as we get closer to the date.

For those children who haven't reached RYA Stage 2 or for those who don't want to sail and for any adults, we will be taking the club's Slipper Maid and other larger boats (to be advised) to ferry people across. There will be sign-up sheets for these boats at the camp.

Entertainment

When we return from East Head there will be games and plenty of space for the kids to run about whilst the adults take the opportunity to relax and socialise.

After the BBQ on Saturday night we will have the usual camp fire with singing and marshmallows - maybe a few camp fire drinks for the adults!

When should we leave?

Everyone needs to vacate the campsite no later than midday Sunday.

If you have any questions or experience issues completing the form, do not hesitate to contact me via email.

Thank you
