'Slipper Spirit' Launch and Blessing

Published 10:05 on 17 Oct 2023

With glorious sunshine and a cool easterly breeze, Slipper Spirit, our fabulous new Celtic Longboat was launched yesterday after a blessing by James Mant and a vote of thanks for those who enabled this project.

The name 'Slipper Spirit' was chosen following suggestions from members, and includes the Welsh translation as recognition to her Welsh heritage. Our boat has been made possible through the volunteering and 'self-help' attitude from members across the club which truly is 'Slipper Spirit'.

Thank you to Itchenor and Langstone Cutters who brought their Longboats and all the other craft that attended, giving everyone a chance to have a go. Plus thanks to Dell Quay for their attendance and ongoing support.

What a momentous day for our club. Another fantastic way for members to enjoy our beautiful and special harbour, both for their health & wellbeing.

To keep up the interest and momentum generated in rowing, we are going to run "Open Rowing" sessions on Sundays where all members can try out rowing and enjoy this great activity that keeps you fit and is immensely sociable. The dates and times planned are as follows:-

Sunday 22 October 15:00

Sunday 12 November 09:00

Sunday 26 November 09:00

Sunday 17 December 12:30

Please come along, equipped to launch from the club. Each trip will consist of up to 3 novice rowers plus 2 experienced rowers and a cox. Those awaiting a trip can congregate in The Club or at Flintstones. Looking forward to seeing you there!

Mark,

Rowing Captain
