ESSC Safeguarding Policy

ESSC SAFEGUARDING

  • ESSC is committed to safeguarding children or any vulnerable adult taking part in its activities from physical, sexual or emotional harm, neglect or bullying. We recognise that the safety, welfare and needs of the child are paramount and that any child, irrespective of age, disability, race, religion or belief, sex, sexual or gender identity or social status, has a right to protection from discrimination and abuse- (N.B. a child is anyone under the age of 18)
  • ESSC takes all reasonable steps to ensure that, through safe recruitment, appropriate operating procedures and training, it offers a safe and fun environment to all children taking part in its events and activities.
  • The above 2 statements have been taken from the club's operation manual
  • Our aim is for all Senior S.I. and Dinghy D.I instructors, who lead junior and youth activities to provide an advanced DBS check.
  • The ethos of our club encourages self help and parental involvement, so we ask for Parent / Guardian's input to equally ensure their safety by being present and responsible for your children as appropriate
  • Please familiarise yourself with the Club's Operations Manual, and how to access help or support if needed. The clubs safeguarding Officer is Sarah Thorsby who can be contacted sarah_thorsby@hotmail.com or 07796178829 supported by Yvonne Watkins ywatki@gmail.com. Alternatively, any flag officer would also be able to help. They can be identified on the board in the foyer and their details can be found on the club's website
  • Basic common sense is always essential to minimise risks by being mindful of how you approach, talk or if ever needed, how to come into contact with a child.
  • Ensure you are not the only adult in the changing room with children, or that your child isn't the only child in a changing room of adults. Wherever possible, ensure a parent or appropriate adult is available to supervise children under secondary school age.
  • Familiarise yourself with the whereabouts of the Club's first aid kit
  • Be aware of the risk of the public to access our changing rooms, so please reduce this risk by closing the boat park gates after use, and do not leave the changing room doors propped open.
  • Children over the age of 16 are able to request their own fob to alleviate this problem, with their parent's permission.

If you have any safeguarding concerns or questions, please do not hesitate to contact Sarah or Yvonne.
