Oppie Camp 2026

Fri 19th - Sun 21 June  ·  Cobnor

This year's event is on the weekend of 19th-21st June.

Gareth Davies has kindly volunteered to be Oppie Camp SI having thoroughly enjoyed his first Opi Camps ever last year!

Numbers are limited to 150 and are on a first come first serve basis so please book early to avoid disappointment as we were very close to this number last year.

Mid-May, a digital form will go out to everybody who has purchased a ticket so we can gather some more specific information to help with the behind the scenes planning that goes into the weekend.

Not been before?

Hopefully, the below information will be useful but please email one of us directly if you have any remaining questions.

We look forward to seeing you there and fingers crossed we have good weather!

Alex Thorsby & Lucy Day

USEFUL INFORMATION

Where is it?

The camp is held at Cobnor in a private camping field adjacent to Cobnor House PO18 8TE. Drive to the end of the lane and you will see the camping field on your right.

What should I expect at the campsite?

It is a camping field with limited facilities. We will have 5 of our own Portaloo's. There are two water standpipes but there is no electricity and no showers.

What can I bring?

Bring along your tent, caravan or campervan. You will also need picnic gear which includes a table and chairs for the BBQ. If you are bringing your own BBQ, please note disposable BBQs are not allowed.

When should we arrive?

You can arrive and pitch up anytime from 2pm Friday. There will be a sailing briefing at 7.30pm on Friday evening when we will know what the conditions are, and we have finalised any details. Please make every effort to be there. As a heads up we are aiming to sail at about 10.30am Saturday.

What food should I bring?

Following the success of last year, there will be a pizza van arriving ready on Friday evening to serve pizzas for anybody who wants to purchase them. Pizza's will be served from 5:30 at a reasonable price and there is no need to prebook. It is recommended to bring cash as internet signal can be challenging for card payments. Aside from this, you will need to bring all meals with you. You will need to prepare a packed lunch for Saturday at the beach. On the Saturday evening (as is tradition) we would like everyone to eat together in the middle of the field and would ask that you bring a salad and desert that you are willing to share. 2 or 3 of the club BBQ's will be available and lit for communal use although you may wish to use your own cooking equipment as well.

Sailing

On Saturday we will take our packed lunches and sail to East Head. It was fantastic to see more and more people sailing to East Head last year whether single handed or in one of the larger sailing dinghies and we would love to build upon these positive experiences.

Children who have reached RYA Stage 2 can sail single handed - if you are unsure about whether your child can sail, please talk to your instructor. We need to know details of the people going to East Head so that we can plan patrol cover and ensure we have enough instructors to cover the groups. Please list the names of any children and the type of boat they will be sailing to East Head on the form. There are some club boats available (Oppies, Tera's, Toppers & Feva's) which will need to be booked, and we encourage you to bring any of your own boats as well. If you need assistance getting them to and from Cobnor, let us know and we may be able to help by road or by sea. There will be additional information on the arrangements for getting club boats to and from Cobnor as we get closer to the date.

As per last year, we plan to have the club Bahia's helmed by instructors and enable some of the more inexperienced sailors the opportunity to sail to East Head as well. We will try our best to accommodate as many children as we can safely depending on the conditions so if this is of interest, please let us know on the form. Based on last year, we may have to have a prize for the loudest singing on the water!!

For those who don't want to sail and for any adults, we will be taking the club's Slipper Maid and other larger boats (to be advised) to ferry people across. Please give an indication of how many people will need a ride to East Head so we can ensure we have enough spaces.

Entertainment

When we return from East Head there will be games and plenty of space for the kids to run about whilst the adults take the opportunity to relax and socialise. We hope to have an Ice Cream van visit the field once we return as well

After the BBQ on Saturday night we will have the usual campfire with singing and marshmallows - maybe a few campfire drinks for the adults!

When should we leave?

Everyone needs to vacate the campsite no later than midday Sunday.
