RYA Level 2 Powerboat Handling

Sat. 22nd & Sun. 23rd February 2020 (Pre-course meeting Thurs. 20th Feb. @ 8pm)

This two-day (16 hours) entry level course provides the skills and background knowledge needed to drive a powerboat and is the basis of the International Certificate of Competence.

It focuses on low speed close quarters handling, man overboard recovery, an introduction to driving at planing speed, and collision regulations.  It also provides an overview of the other aspects which need to be considered including pilotage/passage planning, tides and weather.

This course is designed for candidates who have no previous powerboating experience or have undertaken the RYA Level 1 Start Powerboating Course.  The Emsworth Slipper course takes place at the club with classroom and afloat sessions and provides the benefit of training on two types of craft, Displacement and RIBs.

After the course you should be a self-sufficient powerboater in the right conditions, aware of your own limitations and those of the craft.

The cost including the RYA ‘Start Powerboating’ Handbook, Powerboat Logbook and certification is £40.  Candidates must be aged 16 or over, or be Youth members aged 15 working towards their Dinghy Instructor Qualification.
