This two-day entry level course provides the skills and background knowledge needed to drive a powerboat and is the basis of the International Certificate of Competence.
It focuses on low speed close quarters handling, man overboard recovery, an introduction to driving at planing speed, and collision regulations. It also provides an overview of the other aspects which need to be considered including pilotage/passage planning, tides and weather. After the course you should be a self-sufficient powerboater in the right conditions, aware of your own limitations and those of the craft.
This course is designed for candidates who have no previous powerboating experience or have undertaken the RYA Level 1 Start Powerboating Course. The Emsworth Slipper course also gives you the benefit of training on two types of craft, Displacement hulls and RIBs and your certificate will be endorsed accordingly.
The cost of the training including handbooks and certification is £40. Candidates must be aged 16 or over or be Youth members aged 15 working towards their Dinghy Instructor Qualification. Candidates who are not aged 16 upon completion of the course will received an endorsed certificate.
