After a year off due to COVID, Chichester Harbour race week is back on for August 2021. The regatta is one of the largest sailing dinghy regattas in the country and with many people choosing to take their holidays in the UK this year, it is expected to produce a bumper turnout of over 400 boats. Based out of Hayling Island Sailing club, there is class racing for Fireballs, Flying Fifteens, D-Zeros, Aeros, Finns, RS200s, Foiling Moths, Solos, Lasers, RS Fevas, RS Teras and RS Elites as well as fast, medium and slow handicaps. A strong fleet is also expected for the asymmetric handicap. For the first time ever there is a start for cruisers racing out in the bay under national handicaps. The inter-club team trophy is keenly fought with the top 5 boats selected from each of the harbour clubs and several visiting clubs.
Off the water, the regatta has become well known for its social events. This year promises a steel band and beach barbecue, beer and skittles at the beautiful old mill-house at Emsworth Slipper SC, a pub quiz at Mengeham Rythe SC, and the perennial Hayling Island Sailing Club disco.
Dates: Aug 9 to 13 2021
Venue: Hayling Island Sailing Club
Online entries: are open from the 1st May with an early bird discount up to 30 June. In addition to the class starts listed, if there are ten or more boats entered in a class by 31 July, then you will get your own class prizes. https://chichesterharbourraceweek.sailevent.net/
Chichester Harbour Race Week - Mark Boat and Patrol Boat Volunteers Needed Monday 9 Aug to Friday 13 August 2021
Up to 400 boats from all the harbour clubs and around the country come to race. Volunteers are invited to the Helpers Cocktail Party
This great event is back again this year and will be held from Monday Aug 9 to Friday August 13 2021 and is based at Hayling Island Sailing Club (HISC).
While being based at HISC Chichester harbour Race Week is organised by Chichester Harbour Federation of which Emsworth Slipper SC is a member. The Regatta caters for all classes of mono hull dinghies and it's one of the few events where club dinghy racers can compete with very experienced international class sailors.Traditionally Slipper has supported the events in both a sailing capacity and support capacity. In the support capacity ESSC has donated Slipper Maid, Slipper 1 and Slipper 2 as a support and patrol boats and over the years many of our members have had key roles in the race office. You can volunteer for just one day or all week, the more the better. If you have not got involved before then now is your chance, it is a great event and a lovely location.
This mailing has gone to all adult members of the ESSC as there may be some of you who may want to volunteer, or help at CHRW, who are not dinghy sailors or power boat PB2 holders. A big thank you to everyone who does get involved.
During the week Slipper Maid is based at HISC and plays a key role in being a "Mark" boat. This involves anchoring off one of the race marks and recording the boats as they round the marks, we get great view of the racing and if it's windy we may be the home for a dinghy or two. (The safety team may view it's safer for us to tow boats back at the end of the race rather than take a Rib out of action while towing something back). The team on Slipper Maid also keep a look out on behalf of the Race Officer and Safety team in our area of the race course. The records we produce often help resolve issues such as - 'did the boat actually sail the correct course' and we can provide on the water information to the race team and the safety team.
Slipper 1 and 2
Slipper 1 and Slipper 2 are used as Patrol Boats for the week and are also stationed at HISC for the week. On the Sunday before the racing week Slipper Maid, Slipper 1 and 2 will escort any boats who want to sail from Slipper to HISC.
CHRW is always looking for volunteers on each of the days racing. We need a team of 3 to manage Slipper Maid and we need crews of 2 for each of Slipper 1 and Slipper 2.Cocktail Party, free lunch and more. Those people who volunteer get a meal voucher to be used at HISC, an invite to the helper's cocktail party and for those that can help for 3 days or more you get the prized "CHRW Race Team" polo shirt
'Please volunteer on the website (you will need to log in)https://www.emsworthslippersc.org.uk/roster
If you want to sail in the event online entry opened on the 1 May. We expect the entries to be high this year and there is a maximum capacity. If you want to participate then get your entry in early to avoid disappointment!
Thank you all
