Tier 4 Restrictions
The RYA have release the following guidance:
'Sailing clubs, boat parks and marinas can open for individual exercise, and for people to use with others within their household, support bubble, or with one person from another household.'
Their guidance sheet is available here:
So with immediate effect ESSC advise that:
- All indoor facilities including the club house, toilets and changing rooms will be closed.
- The club grounds will be open to allow personal exercise within the guidelines provided by the government. So this does mean 'free' sailing is possible for members, but please make sure you are fully prepared for winter sailing conditions.
- Our advice is:
- Wear adequate clothing.
- Safety cover will not be provided by the club. Please bear in mind that if you have to call on the Coastguard/RNLI or other emergency services you may be putting them at Covid or other risk, so have due regard for the conditions before you go on the water.
- You will be expected to be self-sufficient and it is advisable to take a mobile phone or vhf and agree a shore contact before you go.
- It is advisable to stay local and not to go down harbour.
- Experience shows that gear failure is a frequent cause for rescue. Check your equipment carefully, and if you are unsure, consider very carefully whether you should go out.
ESSC is in a Tier 4 area, so please make sure you are abiding by the travel guidelines before you plan a visit to the club as the only permissible reason to come to the club is for exercise.
Radio Sailing
The guidelines mean that one Radio Sailor can meet another at the club provided they deem this as exercise and are socially distanced.
Social
It is with regret that I advise you that the Club and Bar are closed at present. We hope for better news soon.
Best wishes,
Bryan
