ESSC has a full and well supported programme of racing and inshore and offshore cruising.

Racing is organised for a single club fleet using a handicap system based on the RYA Portsmouth Yardstick scheme for all boats.  There are two series, the Phillips Cup Series of 11 races to different venues throughout the Solent and the less tastefully titled Back Passage Series of 6 events.  There are also inter-club races with Emsworth Sailing Club.  All races are open to all comers but only Club members qualify for ESSC trophies.

Those who do not want to race often cruise inshore to the venues to enjoy the friendly and enthusiastic discourse that characterises ESSC. Each year we have two cruises in company, events further afield to France or the West Country and for smaller boats there is also a very active programme of mid-week cruising.

Folly Trophy 2008 - ESSC results - June 10th 2008 - More - PDF
What a sail! The race started off on Saturday in a gentle W breeze, some choosing left and some choosing right. From our experience I think left was marginally better.

Bell Trophy and BP2 results v2 - May 27th 2008 - More - PDF
This weekend was another stonker! With 20 entries and 50 people eating at Gins Farm (I originally estimated 30-40), Gins Farm did well to fit us all in!

Anchor Trophy and BP1 Results - May 8th 2008 - More - PDF
What a super weekend! The race started with a flurry of rusty spinnaker hoists in SE 3-4 breeze, acccompanied by a few rays of sun. The course weeved its way downwind to Mackley Construction for the beat back to Gleeds, off Portsmouth.

BP1 results - May 8th 2008 - PDF
This was a very enjoyable beat back in a very similar SE 3-4 breeze to the previous days racing. Melody romped off into the distance again.

Cranwell Cup 2008 Results - April 20th 2008 - More - PDF
An understandably depleted fleet took part in the ESSC first cruiser race of the season. Saturday was windy and miserable but conditions did improve through the day and for those that joined in a good time was had by all!

2008 Cruiser Programme - December 18th 2007 - PDF
Please find attached the 2008 Cruiser Program. I have left July and August largely free for summer cruises. But there is no reason why we cannot have the occasional infromal event in these months!

Nab Dash that wasn't! - October 8th 2007 - More - PDF
10 out of 10 for trying goes to Melody, Nessa and Amarylis. These yachts stuck it out to the Nab in spite of there being little or no wind, an end of the day chill and receding light.

Another win for Melody! Please let me know if you spot any deliberate mistakes.

Folly Series Race 2007 (ESSC only) - August 7th 2007 - More - PDF
ESSC retain the Folly Trophy again! Unfortunately the ESC only entered 3 Yachts against an ESSC entry of 10 starters so the interclub race was a little one sided.

Pursuit Race weekend results - May 24th 2007 - More - PDF
The real result was making it to the Folly Reach on the Saturday! Big winds and big seas whipped up by gusts of F7 against a spring tide. This would have put off a lot of sailors, but not the ESSC!
